Privacy and Security by Design, Inc. is founded by the Philippines’ First Privacy Commissioner Raymund Enriquez Liboro. His vision is to establish a trusted environment in today’s digital world where the free flow of data would result in enhanced quality of life for every person.
Today, as nations rebuild their economies, using and processing personal data such as health, consumer and other personal data have become vital to address citizens’ pains and to bounce back in the New Normal.
That is why the government and business organizations responsible for processing personal data are urged to consider global data protection principles and practices.
An assessment of the privacy impact on an individual before any personal data processing is the best method of ensuring data protection by design principles are implemented in practice, and underlying risks are mitigated. Likewise, the cyber security risk of any digital system or app that supports legitimate business aims must be fully assessed, considering the risks that can emerge from different actors in a global threat context.
To build trust and confidence in the way personal data is processed, individuals need to be assured that: their data is handled securely; the data collected from them is not excessive; they have clear and accessible information to understand how their data will be used; there is a specific purpose for the processing; their data will be retained for no longer that is necessary. These principles of effectiveness, necessity, and proportionality must be present in any measure adopted by governments and businesses that involve processing personal data.
